L. DiAnne Borders, PhD, ACS, LMHC, NCC,

and CSRC Co-Founder (Counseling)
Excellence Professor, Department of Counseling and Educational Development
The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, USA

DiAnne Borders is an Excellence Professor in the counseling program at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she teaches the clinical supervision doctoral course and supervises doctoral students’ clinical supervision internships. She has published extensively on supervision education, including studies of novice supervisors (e.g., challenges giving constructive feedback), as well as supervision models (e.g., structured peer group model) and processes (e.g., relationship dynamics, cultural influences). An educator at heart, she draws from her teacher education background to enhance understanding of clinical supervision as the signature pedagogy of mental health and other professions – from traditional learning theories (e.g., information processing) to the science of learning. A current research focus is trauma-informed supervision.

Across several decades, DiAnne chaired several professional task forces around professionalizing clinical supervision (e.g., establishing the Approved Clinical Supervisor credential, writing evidence-based supervision best practices) and has presented her work internationally (e.g., Turkey, Australia). She has appreciated collaborations with supervision researchers and practitioners in other fields (e.g., genetic counseling, sports psychology, communication science disorders). She has been recognized for her supervision research, advocacy, and mentoring. DiAnne currently serves as Editor of The Clinical Supervisor.

DiAnne loves college basketball, detests house of any kind, and adores her son Jacob, the catalyst for so many adventures.
