Mental health professionals are called to routinely engage in trauma-focused work with their clients. As a result, it is important for them to monitor their own wellbeing, given the risk of burnout, secondary traumatic stress, and compassion fatigue. Supervisors who integrate trauma-informed supervision (TIS) into supervision practices may help to better prepare their supervisees to engage in trauma-forced work and serve to buffer against professional issues. The presenters of this training will discuss the need for TIS, review the theoretical principles of TIS, discuss empirical evidence of the value of TIS, and share strategies for supervisors to integrate TIS in their supervision.
