Presenter: Dr. David Wilkins, Reader in Social Work, Cardiff University

It has become a cliché when discussing supervision to lament the lack of good evidence that it makes a difference for people using services. Yet in the context of child welfare (as in other fields), a belief in the value and efficacy of supervision provides a rare example of consensus between academics, policymakers, and practitioners. So, what’s going on? In this webinar, Dr David Wilkins will discuss emerging evidence from England on the association between supervision and ‘outcomes’ for children and families and consider what this tells us about the nature of ‘good supervision’ in child welfare. Dr. Wilkins will also offer some reflections on the value of supervision, and the limitations of (only) asking ‘what works.’
